Scolopendra gigantea "robusta" (Peruvian giant yellow-leg centipede)

The following are some of my documented condition that i have raised my Scolopendra gigantea "robusta" up to a beauty she is now. For sharing purposes.

Temperature:
Day: 86°F - 89.6°F (30 - 32°C )
Night: 77°F - 82.4°F (25 - 28°C)

Humidity:
70-80%

Sustrate:
Pure coco fibre/peat. Condition is always moist but not soaking wet.

Sustrate Depth:
3-5cm would suffice.

Water provisioning:
Always ensure that there is a clean supply of water provided by a small dish within the enclosure.
Check on it weekly to ensure that there are no dead prey parts rotting within in. Replace the water on a weekly basis.

Hide:
Provision of a large bark piece is ideal for S.gigantea to seek solitude in.

Feeding:
In the wild, they are known to preys on a great variety of critters including insects, other arthropods, amphibians, mammals and reptiles. In captive condition, i have kept the variety of feeder circulating between crickets, super worms and B.lateralis roaches.

Excellent beast!
This is not a burrower species? I ask because my S. dehaani & cingulata lives more underground.
Very impressive

Hey mate,

Thanks for bringing this up. They do burrow when the depth of substrate is adequate (3 inch and above).
However, if you wish to use shallow substrate level like what i did, it would work if there are adequate hiding place for them. No issue Smile

That is true. I'm guilty of that, to be honest, but it's definitely not a regular feeding habit.

There's indeed a risk of the pede getting a defensive bite from the mice.

Safer choice is to stick with the regular farm-bred feeders and remove them if they are not taken within the same day.
