Re: Uroplectes shots
You have Uroplectes sp. up the wall. How hard to care for are they? Also, how do you have so many broods?

Re: Uroplectes shots
They are pretty easy to care for, I keep them almost the same as my other desert species but with a bit more water. They grow very fast though, males can go from 2i to adulthood in 6-8 months.
Probably because I have many females

Re: Uroplectes shots
So since she is still mating does hat mean the previous mating was unsuccessful?

Re: Uroplectes shots
No idea... She might have taken the first time and the male is still eager to mate and the females are sometimes willing to be tugged around but they can still refuse to take up the spermatophore at the end of the promenade a deux if she decides.

Re: Uroplectes shots
Haha, pretty much. Uroplectes make up about 80% of my collection.

Re: Uroplectes shots
So, I had a closer look at my supposed female U.marlothi and it turns out it's also a male. All the matings were very much pointless...

Re: Uroplectes shots
So the picture with the two was just two dudes? Why the spermatophores?

Re: Uroplectes shots
Yip, two confused males lol. Well, I'm sure the one saw the other one as a female and he decided to try his best. I checked his chelae for the characteristic "tooth" that males have and there it was so I'm kinda disappointed as all of my specimens are now mature males and I have no way of finding a female.

That stinks. Where do they come from country-wise?

A very, very small part of the Western Cape in South Africa, the only true population are found around the Porterville Mountains.

Re: Uroplectes shots
I don't know where exactly those mountains are, but it sounds very hard to get to and I'm going to take a wild guess that you aren't anywhere near that huh. What do you mean by "true" population?

Re: Uroplectes shots
Google shows all With true I mean that's where the specimens were collected that were described as U.marlothi in the first place but another population has popped up elsewhere that not a lot of people are aware of.
