Emperor Scorpion Swims Empty Emperor Scorpion Swims

Post by Lioth Fri Feb 15, 2013 6:31 pm

Do scorpions swim? Well I wouldn't really call it swimming, but my little emp has a pretty unusual activity. I figured I should post this up on ASA, so here I begin. I've recently changed my previous water dish that is a Pringles potato chips cover into quite a deep top cover of a cotton-bud container; I didn't think about the depth and I never thought about how the drinking goes, but he drinks perfectly fine except that he goes in the water for some reason.

At this pic he lasted about 5-7 seconds within this position.

Unfortunately he's not a lobster so he can't last in the water much longer. He just chills for a moment then goes out to perhaps warm itself with some african palm tree roots or something. Don't know if it's fine for him but it's pretty hilarious, like he's on a private tropical pool or something! I'm sure it's fine. I will try to record a video some time.

Going for another round.

He goes to warm himself up after (?)

Pretty interesting don't you think?

Not so unusual, emps do take "baths" sometimes.
Thanks for sharing though, I'm sure lots of people have never witnessed this.

Dude, don't know if it's just from the color of the dish, but that water looks like it needs a change..

Be confident of yourself.

It's definitely not an "everyday capture" to get a shot of an emp, fully submerged underwater.

Sometimes it's about "capturing the moment" not the quality of photos.

Please continue. (back to topic) Smile

lol. i was thinking the same thing, although looking at the pic, the water seems to be perfectly calm like, the scorpion went through the water gently. a video would be really be great. perfect timing for these photos though! Very Happy

new to owning an emperor and wanted to know if the water dish needs to be buried in the soil. also i have the daytime temp at 70-80 degrees and humidity around 70 percent. i keep hearing different things though like, 90-100 degrees in temp and 90 for the humidity. oh and nighttime temp is around 60. if anyone can help i appreciate it.

Hi ASA,

I thought I might as well post it here, instead of starting up a new thread...
My emp is in his drinking dish since this morning untill now, I know some snakes do that to get rid of parasites. Do you guys think this is just bathing (as stated above) or maybe something is wrong? Not panicking, just wondering.

as for evilinktattoos:

There's a great caresheet on keeping forest scorpions like the emperor scorpion on this forum! However, your humidity could be a little bit higher, but not that much. 100F is way to hot for an emperor scorpion. 70-85 degrees is just fine for a tropical scorpion.

--> All your questions will be answered in the caresheet!
