Birth Triggers?

Topic Birth Triggers?

Post by yames on Mon Feb 18, 2013 3:46 am

I was reading the ASA on Hadogenes paucidens and saw the comment at the end that birthing is triggered by a drop in temp and an increase in humidity. Have any of you found in your breeding projects that Emps have any similar or any triggers at all? I've had no success determining what time of year they produce offspring in to help me figure it out on my own. I'm just looking for any feedback here at all. Even the time of year your Emps popped on their own in the past? I'm looking for any helpful patterns.

thanks all!

Hey J,

Good question.

For what i have encountered, there isn't any specific months of the year which my emps will pop. The temperature, humidity and feeding schedule that I have provided is more of less constant all year round.

It depends on when the female was mated and gestation usually falls between 11-18 months (estimated), and i've friends had a record of 24 months of waiting..

Regards,
GS

Next month will be the 9th month of me having her. I know she got pregnant in or around June at the very latest. I had them communal since day 1 of getting them and my male died at the end of June. But she could have been impregnated at an earlier time since they were all kept communal at the pet store too. It's too bad I wont be able to say anything more specific then it's been a minimum of x months and a max of unknown time till she popped. That's hardly as helpful to future Emp breeders.
