New baby Heterometrus Adiane10

New baby Heterometrus Adiane11

This is my baby Heterometrus!
It's absolutely adorable as its incredibly cautious of me, but will still climb onto my hand. It also absolutely refuses to eat in front of me.

It was sold to me as an Asian Forest Scorpion, but is anyone here able to tell the species? The guy who sold it said it was a spinifer, but is there a way to know for sure at this size?

Recently it has hidden away into its hide and has not come out for a while, does it mean it is trying to begin the shedding process? To me it looks really bloated and ready to shed? I shouldn't check up on it for fear of disturbing its shedding process, right?

Hello!
Beautiful shots you have there, and an equally cute scorp as well.

I cant positively ID which species that is, but I'm more inclined towards H. petersii.
I really cant say though, see what the others know.
That is one fat thing, expect a molt soon. And keep the stress to a minimum.

Thanks! Any idea on how long this process will take? I am anxious and worried something went wrong during molting.... I lost a centipede that way...

Sorry for the delay.
Good it's molted!
Dont feed it for at least a week or when you see it return to its normal color.

Cheers

Nice scorp. Smile

It's too young to get a positive ID from a picture, you'll have to wait until it gets closer to an adult. It is most likely a H. petersii though.

Hello,

Lovely Scorpling! I just received two P. imperators and they are just as small as yours. I think they are 2nd, maybe 3rd instal and I'm a nervous wreck about how to care for them. I have them in a large critter keeper with about four inches of coco fiber substrate, a cork log hide, some plants, and Snapple bottle top with some river pebbles to drink from. The cage is in the 29 long tank they will live in as they get bigger, but for now it's far easier for me to observe and tend to their needs in a smaller enclosure. I could use some help from someone whose had one this small though, and could use all the advice you're willing to give. I keep the humidity at around 80% and the temp around 80-85. Thanks in advance for all that reply, Kelly alien

Hi Kelly, seems like you are on the right track. Yep, go with tank size that match the scorpions' need.

We are willing to share experiences but will need specific questions to help u.

Are there any areas you wish to find out more about?

Topic update

Post by kellysaxez on Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:01 am

Hello. My it has been quite a journey since acquiring my little charges. The Emps are flourishing and it's funny to notice how "cuddly" they are. One is rarely anywhere without the other, and, I'm beginning to think I have a male and female as one is much larger and bolder than the other. I have also purchased one 2.5" Hadruras arizonensis (the seller claims it is adult, but as I have no experience with any desert species I am not sure as to this being true, seems at that size it might still have a molt left in it, which would not be good as my reading shows they rarely do that successfully in captivity). It arrives from FLA tomorrow. I was given a "freebie" of a H. spinifer, also estimated by seller at about 2 inches. If someone could tell me if they are as communal as Emps, can I put it in with the Emps, etc that would be great. Also, any advice on the Ha is welcomed. I've searched the boards and found some really great stuff, especially on substrate. i plan on taking the next two weeks to mold and dry some excavator clay with play sand in a 30 gal high.

Thank you all so much in advance,

Kelly
