Why do scorpions have to have scientific names as their nickname? They should all have nicknames, like Emperor scorpion, or death stalker scorpion. I guess this one might have a name, but a lot of them don't.

That is because it can get really confusing. If you called all Androctonus sp. "Fat Tails", how would you know whether you are getting A. australis or A. bicolor? Also, Heterometrus are labeled as "Asian Forest Scorpions". How do you know whether you are getting H. longimanus or H. spinifer or H. petersii or H. swammerdami?

If you think about it, there are 1800+ species of scorpions and usually with such a huge amount it's better to group them and this is exactly what scientific names do If you have the genus of the scorp down then you're halfway there.
