How much have you given in your pursuit of this Scorpion Hobby?
If you are seeing this message, it is almost certain that you are a Scorpion Addict! or at least.. just a step closer from being one
Undeniably, there is a good chance that being "Scorpion Fanatics" like us, we tend to spend an increasing amount of money acquiring new specimens, or simply by preparing suitable setups for our beloved scorpions.
It'll be interesting to hear from our fellow hobbyist how much have we given, in terms of time..money.. effort.. or maybe.. to the extend of losing your girlfriend or boyfriend (who can't stand creatures with more than four legs) ?
And if you have a method of keeping the "cost" low and yet, have sufficient "antidote" to curb the self-urge on spending more on scorpion-related purchase, please... do share with us
You may wish to touch on the following points in your sharing, whenever applicable of course.
____________________________
1) Total number of years in the hobby?
(excluding the number of years you might have left the hobby to attend to the other important factors of your life)
2) Total amount spent on the purchase of scorpions?
3) Total amount spent on enclosures setups?
(e.g. purchase of tank, substrates, heating components, decorative items)
4) Total amount "recuperated" from the sales of your scorpions back into the hobby trade?
5) How much did you spent on feeders for your scorpions on a monthly basis?
(During your active days in the hobby)
6) How much time do you spent on scorpion-related items on a daily/weekly basis?
(e.g. feeding, doing tank maintenance, reading up scorpion feeds online.. or trying to get your scorpions to mate)
7) Till date, how many different species have you owned so far?
(You may list the list in scientific names)
Note: In order to standardize the cost, please state the amount in US dollar. You need not provide an exact amount but just an overall estimate will suffice.
Feel free to share more, or any interesting points that we may have missed out on
Regards,
Team ASA

1) Total number of years in the hobby? Lifetime addicted to bugs but only 3 Years keeping invertebrates. Started with Tarantulas then moved onto scorpions
2) Total amount spent on the purchase of scorpions? About $500. That does not include setups for the actual scorpions
3) Total amount spent on enclosures setups? About $400. Most of the decorations i collect from the beach and countryside
4) Total amount "recuperated" from the sales of your scorpions back into the hobby trade?
ZERO
5) How much did you spent on feeders for your scorpions on a monthly basis?
about 10$. I breed most of mine but by crickets now and again
6) How much time do you spent on scorpion-related items on a daily/weekly basis?
About 4 hours a week
7) Till date, how many different species have you owned so far?
Heterometrus spp
Androctonus australis Hector
Androctonus mauritanicus
Parabuthus villosus
Parabuthus schlechteri
Hottentotta jayakari
Hottentotta buchariensis
Centruroides bicolor
Hadrurus arizonensis
Hadrurus pallidus
Uroplectes otjimbiguensis
Grosphus ankarana
Hadogenes paucidens
Babycurus jacksoni
Buthus occitanus
Pandinus imperator
Hoping to breed most of the species in the list above so with some luck will recuperate some of the expenses.
I have spent a lot more on my camera equipment which i can then use for decent macros

Re: How much have you given in your pursuit of this Scorpion Hobby?
1) Total number of years in the hobby?
Been keeping scorpions, spiders and other bugs since I was about 10 years old. Been seriously(breeding and selling) into scorpions for about 5 years now.
2) Total amount spent on the purchase of scorpions?
Possibly between $1000 to $1500.
3) Total amount spent on enclosures setups?
Not much, maybe $100 to $200, I use plastic containers for most of my scorpions and material from nature so it keeps the costs down.
4) Total amount "recuperated" from the sales of your scorpions back into the hobby trade?
About everything gets recuperated in the end and I usually make a small profit as well.
5) How much did you spent on feeders for your scorpions on a monthly basis?
Nothing, I breed my own cockroaches.
6) How much time do you spent on scorpion-related items on a daily/weekly basis?
About 10-12 hours a week

Re: How much have you given in your pursuit of this Scorpion Hobby?
1) Total number of years in the hobby?
Scorpions only 1 year, but reptiles for like 8-10 years already
2) Total amount spent on the purchase of scorpions?
around $110
3) Total amount spent on enclosures setups?
around $40
4) Total amount "recuperated" from the sales of your scorpions back into the hobby trade?
$0, but my P. transvaalicus might be pregnant...
5) How much did you spent on feeders for your scorpions on a monthly basis?
$0, I breed my own dubias.
6) How much time do you spent on scorpion-related items on a daily/weekly basis?
At least 1 hour of reading a day, and like 1-2 hours/week on care
7) Till date, how many different species have you owned so far?
0.1.0 H. paucidens
0.0.6 H. longimanus
1.1.0 P. transvaalicus
0.1.0 P. imperator
Getting into scorpions more and more every day, would ultimately love to have one room filled with nightactive animals so I can switch day/night-rhythm to enjoy them even more.
