Maintenance Software?
Hello,
Anyone out there have actual experience or recommendations for scorpion/tarantula maintenance. My collection continues to grow and need some help on feeding, molts, and general maintenance. Thanks in advance.

Re: Maintenance Software?
I started out using regular graph paper but have since made a spread sheet in microsoft excel.
I print it out and fill in feeding dates. Watering dates. Mating attempts. I left a little room at the bottom for extra notes and I keep all the pages together in 1 file. It has been very useful for tracking molts and scorpion age.

Basically what Yames says excel is a easy way to keep it documented

I keep photos of every major occurrences like mating and births as all of the photos has time stamps. Feeding and molts for 300+ scorpions is a bit too much for me to put into documents but when I started I also just used a spreadsheet.

I made a spreadsheet that includes name, date of acquisition, species, gender, molt dates, death dates, and instar. I have yet to add on births, length of pregnancies, and date sold/traded but none of those have happened yet.

Well I certainly don't have 300! . So, a spreadsheet probably will do the trick. I thought I saw awhile ago some freeware to assist though?

Re: Maintenance Software?
I've seen free programs for keeping track of reptile maintenance but can't remember their names, if you stumble across one I'm sure it could be used for other animals as well.

Great suggestions have been given above. Especially so for "time stamps" using photos, mentioned by Shadowfoot.
You can sort those pictures into folders (according to scientific name), and in the different captures you wish to monitor for.. feeding.. molting.. mating... you name it. If possible, always try to make regular backups.
Somehow.. using spreadsheet or recording software does not seem to be a long term plan as your collection grow. Most of us will find this thought familiar..
"Ok.. this will be the last batch of scorps.. it should serve my scorp addiction for quite a while.."
And "BAM".. payment made for next batch

The story of our lifes.... sooner or later, any "serious" hobbyist goes through this.
Anyways, for freeware you can check here http://www.allscorpionarchives.com/t299-software-arachnorecord-keep-track-of-your-inverts
Re: Maintenance Software?
I downloaded that, and it was really well made, but it stopped working for me for some reason.

Re: Maintenance Software?
Exotic Keepers' Record is another free one if you must have a dedicated software.
It's ok for small collections, but it gets tedious to update when you have a larger amount and variety of critters.
The good old notebook and pencil is still the best IMO.

Re: Maintenance Software?
Looks like the perfect tool for me. I tried to check it out. Found it available as freeware on a few sites. While trying to download it, my anti-virus kicks in. It looks like it is one of those "free" software packages that blast machine-gun spam at you? So, I killed it. Anyone actually use the product on this site?DolbyR wrote:Exotic Keepers' Record is another free one if you must have a dedicated software.

Re: Maintenance Software?
I have used it in the past (maybe 2-3 years ago). Never had issues with spam/malware, but can't guarantee it's still the same.
Re: Maintenance Software?
Well, I finally settled for the freeware package: Arachnorecord 2.0. Not bad at all. Incredible species listing for both scorpions and T's. Reminders are okay but you have to have the software open to view the reminder. I would love an email blast better. Supports pics and molt info, etc.DolbyR wrote:I have used it in the past (maybe 2-3 years ago). Never had issues with spam/malware, but can't guarantee it's still the same.
Check it out and let me know what you think? May end up with the spreadsheet as a looking backward tool. Thanks.
