Leiurus Quinquestriatus Brood
I had grand plans to bring all the pictures and info over here of my Lq birth thread but I've been horribly busy and in combination with my crippling laziness. Well you get the picture... But tonight while taking pictures of my Emps I decided to feed my 5 4i Lq's and 1 3i stubborn slow to molt Lq. I found this.
This little lady molted from 3i to 4i in 43 days but now has molted from 4i to 5i in only 41! I have a 3i sister of hers who has been chilling at 3i for 92 days now. They get offered food on the same days. They are in deli cups which get rotated around the heat lamp daily to make sure they get equal heat. The only thing I can think of is that as they have been getting older I've been reducing the frequency of my misting. #2 there (which if memory serves me I named DolbyR back in the day) had been kept fairly dry this week until I misted last night. So maybe I triggered the early molt with a monsoon? Oh well at least I have somewhere to post up my Lq baby pics now.

That seems plausible about triggering the molt with misting.
Great pictures!

Thanks Dune. I'm glad you like them.
On a Side note I've recently found out that I have Leiurus quinquestriatus hebraeus. Which can be seen in the 5th segment of the tail. The gradient from dark to grey is the indicator. It was news to me too.

Yeah it's tough to know the age of a WC scorpion. I think that's what appeals to me about raising my own. Knowing their actual age and keeping them around nice and long.

Re: Leiurus Quinquestriatus Brood
The lone male in my group #1 GS as he's been named finally joined the gals at 5i he is starting to really show his lack of size compared to the females. At 4i premolt he looked like a 3i girl in a side by side comparison.
But here he is in all his 5i glory!

It's really a joy to watch them grow up healthily under your care. Good job!
Re: Leiurus Quinquestriatus Brood
You know they got their names from the guys who helped me keep them alive. Little GS wouldn't even be here if you hadn't struggled to reply to my frantic e-mails on your cell phone. Thanks guys!

Hey guys what instar are Lq's full grown at? I seem to think it's 7i for males and females.

Re: Leiurus Quinquestriatus Brood
I've noticed something very interesting about my Lq's especially at 4i and up. When they are pre molt and around 24 hours or less to a molt the tips of their legs turn black. At first I thought it was mycosis and was very upset that it would affect all of her feet over night. But then she molted within 10 hours. So I started looking for the sign and all of my specimen have displayed it with 24 hours of molt. I wonder if I just missed it at the smaller instars because of the smaller size. Has anyone else noticed this?
And this was 10 hours later.

Re: Leiurus Quinquestriatus Brood
What a proud moment. My boy (Lq#1 GS) has become a man. I'm not even ashamed I took a picture of his first love making.
And look he's already good at it!
