Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
This one seems to be a much better size. And she's not eating them which is my favorite part.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
Thanks guys. My BJ's are doing great nothing much to report until my female molts again. Then I'll be setting up the communal tank and watching for hanky panky.
Back to these guys. Looking at my last post when she had her first brood. This is 3 months later almost to the day. That's crazy fast to me. What a good little girl I've got here.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
Sure thing. ahxean
I keep the male female together communally until she started showing signs of being gravid. She mated with her last brood still 1i on her back but I think she cannibalized them because of the close proximity of the male or being under fed. This brood is doing well.
I use a 50/50 mix of sand and coco fiber.
I heat the one side without the water dish with a IR bulb. my cool side is 78-81 degrees F. I haven't probed the hot side but would estimate it reaches the low 90's. My female stays on the 90's side and had her brood there. The male would usually be on the cool side. I'm unsure if it was totally by choice or she chased him away.
I mist a small water dish to slightly overflowing every week. I have not allowed it to dry up completely between fills. The RH is 60-70 daily.
The male eats once every week or two. He's picky. My female ate every day for the first month of becoming gravid but I feel she was under fed when I got her originally. she leveled out at 1 feeder per week but would always take a second. I fed her often to hopefully fatten her up to avoid those cannibalistic tendencies.
My 4i baby I saved from the first disastrous brood is housed at 80` F and misted every 3 or 4 days in her individual deli cup.Â
That's all I can think of right now but if you have any other specific questions please feel free to post them up here.

Here is the latest class photo. They appear to all be 2i now but I still can't guess at the total numbers.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
I've separated the babies out into a communal enclosure and fed them 40 or so pin head crickets. I hope they've all eaten. My full count was 42.
Dad was reintroduced to mom and they immediately started their mating dance.
So in another 3-4 months I'll be doing this over again. I like this species.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
Do they need a wood or bark to stay or molt?

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
The ones I have haven't used the bark to molt yet and the adults seem content to scrape out underneath it. But I'm still providing it just in case.

They loose them by 3-4i and start looking like mom and pop then.

That stinks. Guess that means you want to keep breeding them then.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
I've got some feeding pics from my communal tank of 42 babies.
He/she can't even spare 1 cricket for her brother or sister! How greedy.
This one was giving itself a spit bath for 10 minutes. He was soaked for a while there and just rubbing it around. It was very fun to watch.

Re: Grosphus Grandidieri Brood 2
So this is what it was like for my parents at dinner time with me and my sister.
Two kids go for the same snack.
Then things get rough some hair gets pulled (or tails)
Then the bully wins the snack but keeps yanking the other around until Dad get's involved. In this case I was Dad and i blew on them once to break it up.

They look amazing!
I recently picked up 5 scorplings and was wondering what temperature you're keeping the babies to ensure optimal growth. Same as the mom?
